Jim Carrey Wednesday responded to his former girlfriend, Jenny McCarthy, who said the comedian has turned his back on her 10-year-old autistic son, Evan.
"I will always do what I believe is in the best interest of Evan's well-being," Carrey, 50, said in a statement. "It's unfortunate that Evan's privacy is not being considered. I love Evan very much and will miss him always."
McCarthy, 39, host of NBC's "Love in the Wild," said on Howard Stern's radio show Monday, "I've tried to ask [Carrey] numerous times [to see Evan], because my son still asks."
Evan, she said, tells her "almost weekly" he misses Carrey, with whom she had a five-year relationship that ended in 2010.
"I tell [Evan] that someday you'll cross paths, meet again . . . [but] it's hard," McCarthy told Stern. "He's been in therapy. It's a process; he's working on it."
