Hampton Bays man to sue Bieber over assault

A 22-year-old Hampton Bays man plans to sue Justin Bieber, saying he was kicked by the pop star while being beaten up by about a half-dozen of his security guards outside a Southampton nightclub early Sunday morning.

Wayne Rennalls said the fight stemmed from his request that a nightclub waitress sitting in one of Bieber's sport utility vehicles return a white bow tie Rennalls had given her earlier in the evening. Rennalls spoke yesterday at a news conference at Siben & Siben, the law firm representing him, in Bay Shore.

Bieber's representatives did not return requests for comment yesterday. Southampton Town police officials declined to comment on Rennalls' account given yesterday and said they had no further updates except to say the investigation is ongoing.

Rennalls' attorney Mark Rudner said a summons and complaint was drafted Friday and that the defendants named were Bieber, "his entourage," and South Pointe nightclub. Rudner said the amount of money they will seek in damages depends "on how he heals up."

Rennalls Friday had a black eye and a chipped tooth, and said he also had bruised gums and lips, which he said will impact his modeling career. He said he works for a Manhattan agency, which could not be reached for comment.

Around 3:45 a.m. Sunday, Rennalls said, he walked out of the club with friends and asked the waitress, now in one of Bieber's SUVs, to return the bow tie. He said one of Bieber's friends got upset and "made a scene."

Rennalls said he started walking toward a cab he was going to take with friends when Bieber, 19, yelled profanities at him from an SUV and threw something at him. He said Bieber's security guards then "jumped him." Rennalls said Bieber kicked him during the assault. Rennalls said he didn't instigate the fight but acknowledged he punched someone during the incident.

Rudner said Rennalls went to Peconic Bay Medical Center to be treated. Southampton Town police said they received a call Sunday from the hospital advising that staff was treating someone for injuries allegedly received after being assaulted at a Southampton nightclub.

A South Pointe spokeswoman has said the incident occurred "off-premises down the street after Justin's security confronted an individual after their car was struck with a rock."
