Justin Bieber cyberbullying ad ends manager's criminal case

Pop idol Justin Bieber sat down with a Roosevelt High School student to talk about cyberbullying in a public service announcement released Wednesday to educate teenagers on the subject.

Bieber's participation in the video satisfies a plea deal that will end criminal charges against the singer's manager that stem from a canceled appearance in November 2009 at the Roosevelt Field mall that drew thousands of fans, prosecutors said.

"I felt strongly that the companies be held responsible for creating this dangerous situation," Nassau District Attorney Kathleen Rice said during a news conference in Mineola. "I thought it would be silly to slap them with a small fine and let them go on their way, so I pushed for something innovative that would be a larger benefit to the community."

In the 11-minute video, which can be seen at stopbullyingli.org, Bieber, 17, and Roosevelt High student Dynalee Henderson, 14, sit in leather easy chairs and discuss their experiences with bullying.

"It's a tough feeling, but at the end of the day you can get through it," Bieber says.

Prosecutors agreed in May 2011 to drop two misdemeanor charges against Bieber's manager, Scott "Scooter" Braun, 31, who they said refused to help law enforcement safely disperse a crowd of thousands that had shown up to see Bieber. He had been scheduled to sign autographs at Justice, a clothing store at the mall in Garden City.

Bieber's record label, Island Def Jam Record Music Group, and his management company, Remster 3 Llc, pleaded guilty to violating local fire codes in the incident. Charges against Island Def Jam senior vice president James Roppo were dropped in the deal.
