Country star Randy Travis sets Westbury Music Fair show, although he won't perform on stage

Randy Travis, the country music star whose life-altering stroke has not kept him off the road, will appear at Flagstar at Westbury Music Fair on Sept. 25, part of his ongoing More Life Tour.

Travis, 67, suffered a near-fatal stroke in 2013 that left him with aphasia, a condition that impairs the ability to communicate.

Travis still has limited capability to play the guitar, sing, speak and walk, according to reports. Nevertheless, Travis last year embarked on the More Life Tour, with vocal duties handled by James Dupré, a onetime contestant on NBC’s “The Voice," while Travis is scheduled to appear “on stage with his wife, Mary, engaging with fans, interacting with the band, and celebrating the music throughout the show,” according to a tour news release.

This year’s version of the More Life Tour — named after the singer’s 2012 duet with Don Henley — is a 19-date trek that starts Aug. 21 in Hiawassee, Georgia, and ends Nov. 8 in Branson, Missouri.

Travis’s career took off in 1986, when his debut album, “Storms of Life,” went triple-platinum. Travis has since racked up dozens of country hits, including “Diggin’ Up Bones,” “Forever and Ever, Amen” and “Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart.” He also notched a handful of Top 40 singles, including 2002’s “Three Wooden Crosses.” Travis has won seven Grammy Awards, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
