Two days before Thanksgiving, Valerie Bertinelli says she is thankful for one thing in particular: that her divorce from second husband Tom Vitale is being finalized.
"I'm at the airport," the actor and "Food Network" star says with a sly smile in a Twitter video posted Tuesday, explaining she is "about to go see Wolfie" — Wolfgang Van Halen, her son with her late ex-husband Eddie Van Halen. "And my lawyer just called. The papers are all signed," she says, barely suppressing a smile.
"On 11/22/22, I am officially [expletive] divorced," the 62-year-old former "One Day at a Time" and "Hot in Cleveland" star continues, whispering, "Happily divorced." With a relieved sigh, she adds, "God. Finally. It's finally over," and as a wide smile spreads over her face, she concludes, "Yes!"
The caption to the video reads, "11.22.22 second best day of my life."
Bertinelli additionally placed the video on Instagram Stories, where posts cycle out after 24 hours. Roughly four hours earlier on that platform, she had uploaded a video of herself saying, "Y'know, there is a difference between talking [expletive] about a person, and talking truth about a [expletive] person."
She had filed separation papers in Los Angeles last Nov. 24 to end her nearly 10-year marriage to entrepreneur Vitale, then filed for divorce this May, citing "irreconcilable differences" and stating the two would abide by a prenuptial agreement.
Bertinelli had met Vitale, 61, who was divorced with four children, in 2004. They became engaged in Italy in 2010 and married on New Year's Day 2011 at their Malibu, California, home. Vitale frequently appeared as himself on Bertinelli's 2015-2020 Food Network series "Valerie's Home Cooking," which also sometimes featured two of his daughters, Andie Vitale and film-industry costumer Angela Vitale ("Father Stu”).
Vitale has not responded publicly to the post but wrote on Instagram on Nov. 9: "Remember, there are two sides to every story."
Bertinelli previously was wed to rock-guitar virtuoso Van Halen from 1981 until they separated in 2000 and finalized their divorce in 2007. Their son Wolfgang, 31, is a rock musician who last year earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Song as writer of his band Mammoth WVH's "Distance."
