Facebook, Twitter scam claims Lady Gaga is dead

Don’t worry “Poker Face” fans, Lady Gaga lives on. Though a Facebook and Twitter scam circulating online would like you to believe otherwise.
The scam can be found on social networking sites with a fake BBC headline reading: “Breaking news Lady Gaga found dead in hotel room.”
The pages then prompt users to “like” or “tweet” to see a video detailing the pop star’s demise. This spreads the scam to users’ personal Facebook and Twitter pages.
And the video the user is waiting to see? Of course, no such video exists.
According to E News, Facebook scammers earn a commission based on the number of clicks the scam receives, so the object of the scam is to spread it to users’ personal Facebook and Twitter accounts so they share it with their friends.
Lady Gaga is certainly not the first celebrity to be “killed” by social media. In December, rumors on Twitter claimed Eddie Murphy died in a snowboarding accident. And in July, those same snowboarding accident rumors spread an Adam Sandler death hoax.
