WHO Emily Mortimer

THE DEAL The British actress will star opposite Gary Oldman in a supernatural thriller directed by Michael Goi, of FX’s “American Horror Story,” according to Deadline. Mortimer and Oldman will play a financially struggling married couple who purchase an old ship in the hopes of starting a charter business, only to discover a horrible secret about the vessel out on the open water. The film is scheduled to begin production in Alabama later this month.

THE DEAL The Russian division of Burger King is demanding that the hit horror film be banned from the country, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The company says Pennywise, the film’s evil clown character, looks too much like Ronald McDonald and therefore works as advertising. “We can’t be concerned with the content of the film because the writer and director have their own creative understanding of any character,” said a spokeswoman for Russia’s Federal Anti-Monopoly Service, which received the complaint. Since opening in Russia on Sept. 7, “It” has grossed $14 million.

THE MOVIE “Call Me By Your Name”

THE DEAL Luca Guadagnino’s drama about a romance between an academic (Armie Hammer) and a teenage boy (Timothée Chalamet) will screen at this year’s Austin Film Festival, adding to the film’s momentum as an early Oscar contender. Though the film has sparked some controversy for its story of an age-inappropriate relationship, several critics and pundits have named it as a potential best picture winner at the awards-tracking website Goldderby. The Austin Film Festival takes place Oct. 26-Nov. 6.
