For your consideration, comic actor Fred Willard has a new movie trivia book out.
"Fred Willard's Magnificent Movie Trivia" ($7.95 from Garden City-based Square One Publishers) packs more than 900 multiple-choice questions - from "What happens to those who look into the Chevy's trunk in 'Repo Man'?" to "Which motion picture is the focus of the documentary 'Hearts of Darkness'?" - for film fans to tackle. Along with the answers, Willard - who's up for a best guest actor in a comedy Emmy this year for his work on "Modern Family" - gives you extra trivia about the film or actor in question. (For instance, in answering a question on the 1980 flop "Heaven's Gate," Willard expounds: "This epic Western has the unfortunate reputation of being one of the biggest film disasters in history. Its failure all but destroyed the credibility of director Michael Cimino, who was deemed self-indulgent and financially irresponsible. The film lost so much money, it lead [sic] to the sale of United Artists studio, which was purchased by MGM.")
In the book's 265 pages, there are directions on where to find answers to the 80 game topics (i.e., "Orson Welles," "Cinema at Sea"). As Willard writes in his instructions, "Get ready to be entertained, amused and enlightened by these . . . movie questions and their fascinating, fact-filled answers.
And in case you were wondering, the answers to the questions above are a) they disintegrate and b) "Apocalypse Now."
