The Casey Affleck drama “Manchester by the Sea,” about a Boston janitor who reluctantly returns to the small Massachusetts fishing down where he was raised, will be the Saturday centerpiece film at the Hamptons International Film Festival, which runs from Oct. 6-10.

Actress Kara Hayward will appear at the screening, festival organizers announced Friday.

Already being called an Oscar front-runner by critics, “Manchester by the Sea” could bolster the festival’s status as an early stop on the Academy Awards campaign circuit. The festival’s lineup has included seven of the last eight best picture Oscar winners.

The festival also announced two other films in its lineup. “20th Century Women,” starring Annette Bening, Greta Gerwig and Elle Fanning as women living in freewheeling Southern California during the 1970s, will be the Sunday Centerpiece film; director Mike Mills will be in attendance. “Strange Weather,” about a grieving woman who travels the Deep South to settle an old score, will be Southampton’s opening film on Oct. 7. Its star, Holly Hunter, will also attend the festival.

The Hamptons International Film Festival runs at venues across the East End.
