The children’s book inspired by Mariah Carey’s 1994 hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is being adapted into a full-length direct-to-video animated feature.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment announced Tuesday that five-time Grammy Award-winner Carey will narrate “Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You,” directed by Guy Vasilovich (2012’s Cartoon Network TV-movie “Lego Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out”). It is scheduled for release on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand this holiday season.

As in the book, young Mariah (voiced by Breanna Yde, from the Nickelodeon series “School of Rock”) wants a puppy for Christmas. But first she must prove she’s responsible by pet-sitting a rambunctious mutt named Jack. Henry Winkler, Lacey Chabert, Phil Morris, Laya Hayes and Keiko Agena also provide voices.

Carey, who turns 48 on Monday, was born in Huntington and raised in Greenlawn. The song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has sold more than 14 million copies.
