The rakish British actor, Tom Hardy, best known to Americans as Eames in last year's "Inception," is set to take the lead role in "Mad Max: Fury Road," the fourth installment of the successful action franchise that launched Mel Gibson's career, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Filming is scheduled to begin early next year in the Australian state of New South Wales with director George Miller, who has overseen the franchise since 1979's low-budget cult hit "Mad Max." Also in the cast are Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult ("A Single Man") and Teresa Palmer ("The Sorcerer's Apprentice").

Fran Lebowitz at Cinema Arts Centre

THE DEAL The famed writer and even-more-famous talker, Fran Lebowitz, will appear in person next week at a screening of  documentary "Public Speaking," which delves into her long career as a professional slinger of barbs and bon mots. The film is directed by Martin Scorsese.

Simon and Garfunkel documentary at Parrish Art Museum

Subtitled "The Making of Bridge Over Troubled Water," documentary "The Harmony Game" features Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel looking back at the 1970 masterpiece that would become their last studio album. It also features scenes from Charles Grodin's TV special about the duo, "Songs of America," which has been little seen since it aired on CBS in 1969.

"The Ceremony," shot on LI, to play in Great Neck

Writer-director Max Winkler (son of Henry) shot "The Ceremony," a quirky comedy-drama in the Hamptons with Uma Thurman, Michael Angarano ("Lords of Dogtown"), Reece Thompson ("Rocket Science") and Jake Johnson ("No Strings Attached"). A sneak preview, as part of the Furman Film Series, will feature guest speaker Christopher Menges, the film's location manager.
