THE MOVIE "Scarface"

THE DEAL Brian De Palma's 1983 gonzo masterpiece wasn't the last word in gangster films, but it remains the loudest and looniest, thanks to Al Pacino, left, in the maniacal title role. Initially panned for its outrageous violence -- and Pacino's operatic performance as the chainsawing, cocaine-Hoovering kingpin Tony Montana -- the film quickly became a cult hit, particularly among rappers and video-game creators. It plays for one night next week to celebrate its Sept. 6 debut on Blu-ray.

INFO Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at area theaters. Go to for locations and ticketing.

THE EVENT "Pay-to-Get-Out Horror Marathon"

THE DEAL The seventh edition of this all-night fright-flick festival includes John Landis' classic "An American Werewolf in London," the forgotten "Freeway" (starring Reese Witherspoon and Kiefer Sutherland, right), the British cult favorite "The Legend of Hell House" and an unusual French entry, "Inside." As always, curator Brett Sherris promises a surprise fifth feature if you survive that long.

INFO 11 p.m. Saturday until dawn at Cinema Arts Centre, 423 Park Ave., Huntington. Tickets are $25 for all five films, $35 if you flee early. 800-838-3006;

THE MOVIE "Transformers: Dark of the Moon"

THE DEAL Despised by critics but popular among moviegoers, the third "Transformers" film may get another box-office boost when it's rereleased in 246 IMAX theaters tomorrow. Despite a low 36 percent rating on RottenTomatoes and the absence of franchise star Megan Fox, the film has earned more than $1 billion worldwide, with $59.6 million coming from IMAX theaters, according to Paramount Pictures. It is now the year's second-highest grosser, behind the final "Harry Potter" film. "Transformers" is slated to play for two weeks. Locally, the movie will be at Deer Park Stadium 16, Stony Brook 17 and Westbury Stadium 12.
