Movie buzz: Life in the 'Middle Lane'

THE MOVIE "59 Middle Lane"
THE DEAL The 2001 murder of investment banker Ted Ammon in his East Hampton home became a highly publicized case that brought a cloud of suspicion over his widow, Generosa Rand (who died of breast cancer in 2003), and ended with the murder conviction of the man she married, Daniel Pelosi. "59 Middle Lane" is a new documentary from the Ammons' adopted children, Greg and Alexa, about their subsequent search for their biological roots. A screening in Manhattan is being held to benefit the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute, and as a ribbon-cutting on the R. Theodore Ammon Archives and Music Library at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Furman Film Series kicks off with a sneak preview of this crime drama about two siblings (Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde) on the run from a botched casino heist. The film, from Austrian director Stefan Ruzowitzky (2007's "The Counterfeiters," which won the foreign language Oscar), also stars Sissy Spacek and Kris Kristofferson. Its release date is Dec. 7.

WHO Karen Arikian
THE DEAL The Hamptons International Film Festival, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last month, is losing its executive director. Arikian, who spent five years in the position, will step down at the end of this month to "pursue new opportunities," according to an announcement from the festival. "Karen has successfully led us through five outstanding festivals, and we are grateful for her many contributions," festival chairman Stuart Match Suna said in a statement. Arikian will continue her role as U.S./East Coast delegate to the Berlin International Film Festival.
