WHO Vera Farmiga

THE MOVIE “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.”

THE DEAL The star of “Up in the Air” and TV’s “Bates Motel” has joined the cast of the sequel to 2014’s “Godzilla,” Variety reports. Farmiga and Kyle Chandler will appear as the parents of a girl played by 13-year-old Millie Bobby Brown of the Netflix series “Stranger Things.” The movie, directed by Michael Dougherty, is scheduled for release in 2019.

WHO Dick Van Dyke

THE DEAL He may have played a Brit in Disney’s “Mary Poppins,” but Van Dyke’s “mockney” accent was voted the worst ever put on film based on a new study ranking the best and worst British accents by American actors, and vice versa. By polling actors on both sides of the pond and using a ranking system of 1 (worst) to 5 (best), the language app Babbel reports that Britain’s Chiwetel Ejiofor managed the best American accent in “12 Years a Slave,” while Meryl Streep did the best British accent in “The Iron Lady.” As for the worst, joining Van Dyke was Kate Winslet for her American English in “Titanic.”

THE MOVIE “All About Eve”

THE DEAL Remember all the stories about “La La Land” being one of only three movies to earn 14 Oscar nominations? “All About Eve,” starring Bette Davis as a sharp-clawed Broadway diva, is one of the others (along with “Titanic”). The 1950 classic, which remains the only film ever to earn four female acting nominations, returns to theaters this month as part of a series presented by Turner Classic Movies.
