THE MOVIE "The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes"

THE DEAL More than 30 years after the 1979 premiere of "The Amityville Horror" -- based on the bestselling book that chronicled the supposed haunting of a Dutch Colonial on Suffolk's South Shore -- comes this follow-up, produced by Jason Blum ("Paranormal Activity"). The premise centers on an ambitious female TV news intern who begins investigating past events with a team of clergymen and journalists. The movie is part of Miramax's new effort to create sequels based on well-known films like "Bad Santa," "Rounders" and even "Shakespeare in Love."

THE MOVIE "A Face in the Crowd"

THE DEAL Elia Kazan's 1957 drama about an ambitious and morally corrupt folk singer (Andy Griffith, cast against type) was light years ahead of its time, predating behind-the-media satires like "Putney Swope," "Network" and "Bulworth." Next week's screening includes a panel discussion featuring Lisa Dombrowski, editor of the book "Kazan Revisited," and Kent Jones, who co-directed "A Letter to Elia" with Martin Scorsese.

INFO Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Cinema Arts Centre, 423 Park Ave., Huntington. Tickets are $13. 631-423-7611; cinemaartscentre.org.

THE MOVIE "8 Murders a Day"

THE DEAL The title of this documentary by Manhasset Hills writer-director Charlie Minn refers to the murder rate in Juarez, Mexico, ground zero for the drug wars that have claimed thousands of lives and forced even more to flee the city. The film has been screened in limited engagements in border states like California, Texas and Arizona, but arrives in New York this week.

INFO Begins Friday at the AMC Empire 25, 234 W. 42nd St., Manhattan. Call 888-262-4386 or go to amctheatres.com.
