New ‘Star Wars’ movie tickets on sale Nov. 28; opens Dec. 16

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” doesn’t hit theaters until Dec. 16, but the box office is open a lot sooner. Tickets for the first stand-alone film in the sci-fi franchise went on sale Monday starting at 12:01 a.m.

Like last year’s blockbuster “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which raked in more than $2 billion worldwide, demand for advance ticket sales for “Rogue One” are expected to be robust. Last week, The Hollywood Reporter ran an article indicating that the movie is projected to earn more than $130 million in North America alone on its opening weekend.

The plot of “Rogue One,” which takes place prior to the first film in the franchise, 1977’s “Star Wars: A New Hope,” concerns a group of rebels attempting to steal the plans to the Death Star.

The new movie stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker and Alan Tudyk.
