No business like Tyler Perry's business

This is Tyler Perry's world. You're only living in it.
The Atlanta mogul is among the most dominant in entertainment, with an estimated net worth of $350 million, according to Forbes.
Perry, 42, who owns his own studio, is an actor and a director, a writer and a producer. He's responsible for hit movies, plays and TV shows. His latest crack at the small screen, "Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse," premieres Friday at 10 p.m. on TBS. It's about the relationship between an ex-football player (Michael Jai White) and his wife (Tasha Smith).
Here's a look at Perry's media empire:
FILM
Perry made his big-screen debut just a few months shy of seven years ago with the adaptation of his play, "Diary of a Mad Black Woman." He subsequently released 10 films he directed, nearly all hits, and has two more in the can.
Perhaps the only disappointment in Perry's prolific movie career: His high-minded "For Colored Girls" (2010) didn't live up to its hype.
There's no sign that the filmmaker will return to such serious territory anytime soon. After all, he cast Kim Kardashian in "The Marriage Counselor," one of his upcoming movies.
STAGE
Perry's ascent to superstardom began on the stage. He endured bouts with homelessness as he worked to finance his debut, "I Know I've Been Changed," which he successfully staged in Atlanta in 1998. Since then, Perry has had the proverbial golden touch, going strong through the present. His "The Haves and the Have Nots" is on tour, and the filmed play "A Madea Christmas" will be available on DVD Tuesday.
TV
TBS loves Perry, who has provided the channel with the popular multigenerational family sitcoms "House of Payne" and "Meet the Browns." "For Better or Worse," which is a spinoff of "Why Did I Get Married?" and its sequel, is well-positioned to further endear its creator to the network.
Smith, the show's star, expects it to resonate no less strongly with Perry's considerable fan base.
"He just loves his audience," she says. "His audience is his family." ROBERT LEVIN
