Reliving the '80s with these remakes
Apparently it's not enough that a movie version of "The A-Team" and a remake of "The Karate Kid" came out this weekend, or that other 1980s nuggets like "Tron" and "Red Dawn" are being remade. According to a poll by MovieTickets.com, audiences are also crossing their fingers for new takes on "The Goonies," "Weird Science" and even "Teen Wolf."
Adding to the Be Careful What You Wish For category, here are other '80s films that may be ripe for a redo:
"Road House" - This camp classic, starring Patrick Swayze as a wandering bouncer who can clean up the toughest dive, is really just a samurai movie in acid-wash jeans. Updating it would be easy: The Missouri bar becomes an Atlanta strip club, Ryan Reynolds gets the lead and Justin Bieber plays the blind singer for the house band.
"Vision Quest" - A thoughtful teen drama, with Matthew Modine torn between two goals: becoming a high-school wrestling champ, or devoting himself to a sexy older woman (Linda Fiorentino). Drop the sensitivity, trade wrestling for mixed martial arts and you've got a hit!
"Who's That Girl" - The story line was awful - respectable nebbish meets sexy outlaw - but casting Madonna turned this flick into an '80s touchstone. Surely some studio head is already in talks with Lady Gaga.
"Top Gun" - Tony Scott is still around to direct, but lose the Kelly McGillis character and just make it an openly gay romance between Maverick and Iceman. Audiences are ready.
