“American Idol” set its Top 13 Thursday night, with America picking the top five guys and top five gals and the three judges each picking a wild card contestant.

There were a few surprises, as judge Jennifer Lopez said, “Some that I was rooting for didn’t do as well.” Early favorite Emmanuel Zidor didn’t even get a chance to “sing for his life,” after last night's iffy performance of "Best of My Love." The judges gave wild card chances to Spencer Lloyd, Bria Anai, C.J. Harris, Jena Irene and Kristen O’Connor, before picking the three who would advance.

The Top 13 begin competing Wednesday, as they choose songs that fit the theme “This Is Me.” In other rule changes for the season, fans will be able to vote for their favorites immediately after they perform and they can even do it simply by searching for a special term on Google.

The top vote-getters were:

Ben Briley, 24, Gallatin, TN

Caleb Johnson, 22, Asheville, NC

Jessica Meuse, 23, Slapout, AL

MK Nobilette, 20, San Francisco, CA

Emily Piriz, 18, Orlando, FL

Alex Preston, 20, Mont Vernon, NH

Dexter Roberts, 22, Fayette, AL

Majesty Rose, 21, Goldsboro, NC

Malaya Watson, 16, Southfield, MI

Sam Woolf, 17, Bradenton, FL

The wild cards chosen were:

C.J. Harris, 23, Jasper, AL

Jena Irene, 17, Farmington Hills, MI

Kristen O’Connor, 24, Sebastian, FL
