After almost single-handedly reinvigorating excitement in the music video as an art form, Lady Gaga has been rewarded with 13 MTV Video Music Awards nominations – the most-ever in a single year for an artist.

“Ironically, I'm even more proud it’s an unlucky number – 13,” Gaga said in a statement. “A long time ago the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard, together we changed the rules. God put me on Earth for 3 reasons: To make loud music, gay videos, and cause a damn ruckus."

Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and “Telephone,” with Beyonce, will duke it out for video of the year against B.O.B.’s “Airplanes” featuring Hayley Williams, Florence and the Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over,” 30 Seconds to Mars’ “Kings and Queens” and “Not Afraid” from Eminem, who landed eight nominations.

"Apparently MTV doesn't care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMA's. [Expletive] me, right?!?!,” Eminem said in a statement, referring to his Sept. 13 and 14 shows at Yankee Stadium with Jay-Z. “I mean, I'll be there but don't expect me to be nice about it."

The VMAs will take place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Sept. 12. Voting for all the awards begins today at vma.mtv.com. That will pretty much guarantee a Best New Artist win for Justin Bieber, don’tcha think?
