On Saturday night, a new tradition began when the Live Nation Long Island Hall of Fame held its first induction ceremony at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury. The evening's theme was hip-hop and legendary acts like Wyandanch's Rakim, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane and Patchogue's Biz Markie were honored.

"This is for the legendary artists that don't play Madison Square Garden," says co-promoter and creator Brian Rosenberg. "They are still legendary, even if they aren't playing arenas."

After the hip-hop show, there are plans for other genres to be spotlighted, like disco (possibilities includes the Village People, KC & the Sunshine Band, the Commodores), R&B and freestyle (TKA, Judy Torres, George Lamond) in 2015. The series focuses on classic acts with known hits. Each one gets inducted, they address the crowd and then perform their most popular material. The plaques will hang on the walls of the NYCB Theatre. Meet-and-greets pre- and post-show are available for fans at an extra cost.

"Old is in right now," says Rosenberg. "This is a golden age because after these acts are too old to play, who's going to replace them?"
