U.S. Bonds, “Quarter to Three” (June 26-July 9, 1961): Although he recorded the song -- a major influence on Bruce Springsteen -- as a young man in his hometown, Norfolk, Va., Bonds (whose real name is Gary Anderson) has been a longtime Wheatley Heights resident.

Harry Chapin, “Cat's in the Cradle” (Dec. 21-27, 1974) The late singer-songwriter from Huntington scored with this poignant tale of a father who paid the price for neglecting his son.

Billy Joel

Billy Joel: The Piano Man from Hicksville had three No. 1 songs: “It's Still Rock and Roll to Me” (July 19-Aug. 1, 1980); “Tell Her About It” (Sept. 24-30, 1983) and “We Didn’t Start the Fire” (Dec. 9-22, 1989). (And in case you were wondering,1974's “Piano Man” only got as high as No. 4.)
