Miley Cyrus may actually know exactly what she’s doing.
Following her attention-grabbing MTV Video Music Awards appearance, her new video for “Wrecking Ball” (RCA) set a new record for viewership on VEVO Tuesday, racking up 19.3 million within its first 24 hours of availability. Cyrus’ first video from the upcoming “Bangerz,” the twerking-filled “We Can’t Stop,” previously held the record, but it was quickly overthrown by One Direction’s “Best Song Ever.”
While the 20-year-old continues to take a sledgehammer to her “Hannah Montana” image with the clothing-averse video for “Wrecking Ball,” the song itself is a more understandable step. The dramatic ballad is like Cyrus’ “The Climb” crossed with Rihanna’s “Stay,” a showcase for her powerful voice that also makes the most of current pop production with its sweeping sound and dubstep elements. As much as the Terry Richardson-directed video tries to cultivate Cyrus’ “edgy” side, “Wrecking Ball” is pretty much a simple, middle-of-the-road crowd-pleaser.
Cyrus apparently has more potential crowd-pleasers with “Bangerz” on deck. She released the album’s full track list Tuesday, including collaborations with Britney Spears, Big Sean and French Montana.
Here’s the track list:
"Adore You"
"We Can't Stop"
"SMS (BANGERZ)" (feat. Britney Spears)
