So it was appropriate that a man who helped put Shea Stadium on the musical map in the played the first concert ever at Citi Field during his Summer Live ‘09 tour. During the first show, Billy Joel made a surprise appearance. McCartney will make his Yankee Stadium debut on July 15.

Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Kanye West, and Jon Bon Jovi have signed on to the “12-12-12 (A Concert for Sandy Relief)” benefit concert at Madison Square Garden.

The Who, Roger Waters and Alicia Keys will also perform at the Dec. 12 fundraiser for the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which will aid victims of Hurricane Sandy. More performers are expected to be announced soon, along with information on ticketing and where the concert will be broadcast.

“'12-12-12' is shaping up to be a showcase of music royalty,” organizers James Dolan, Madison Square Garden Co.'s executive chairman, Clear Channel president John Sykes and The Weinstein Company's chairman Harvey Weinstein said in a joint statement. “The response from the entertainment community to help those most affected by Hurricane Sandy has been nothing short of astounding .?.?. We are confident that the event will ensure those in need will not be forgotten, and vital aid will be directed to rebuilding our communities along the East Coast.”

The event is being produced by music industry heavy-hitters Clear Channel Entertainment, The Weinstein Company and The Madison Square Garden Company -- the same companies who banded together to organize “The Concert for New York City” benefit after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Long Island's Joel and New Jersey's Springsteen and Bon Jovi recently performed at NBC's "Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together" benefit, which raised $23 million for the American Red Cross' Sandy relief efforts.
