Ricky Manning comes on strong on 'The Voice'

The final battle round of “The Voice” was a little anti-climactic.

The way producers have moved the most promising singers to the Monday shows and the lesser ones to the Tuesday shows sort of telegraphs how the next round will go as well. (Those whose competitions were relegated to montages should be even more worried.)

Then again, Taylor Swift starts her mentoring duty next week -- just in time for the release of her “1989” album, what a surprise! -- so maybe the underdogs get a chance to, well, shake it off.

Here’s how the night shook out:

TEAM PHARRELL: BRITTANY BUTLER VS. RICKY MANNING, “On Broadway”

This was a big surprise, as Ricky showed just how savvy a singer he could be on the George Benson classic. Brittany is a learned jazz singer, but she played it a little too cool, while Ricky simply lost himself in the song. He may be a dark horse in the race to the finals.

TEAM BLAKE: KENSINGTON MOORE VS. REAGAN JAMES, “Team”

Reagan really embodied the Lorde hit, picking up the strength and attitude of the original. Kensington was good, but just seemed outclassed here.

TEAM ADAM: BETH SPANGLER VS. MIA PFIRRMAN, “I Turn to You”

“Less is definitely more here,” Adam tells them, as they attempt the Christina Aguilera song. And they both listened -- sort of. (Can anyone out-melisma Christina and still sound musical?) It’s a tough song to sing with nowhere to hide and they both did OK, wobbling here and there. Mia had fewer wobbles.
