It was a mixed bag for artists with Long Island connections when this year's inductees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame were announced Monday night.

For the third consecutive year, Huntington-born and Greenlawn-raised Mariah Carey failed to make the cut. It's no doubt a severe disappointment for her lambs, as her most die-hard fans are called.

Getting the nod, however, was a musician with a small connection to Long Island, but a connection nonetheless: English rocker Billy Idol, who spent about eight of his formative years in Patchogue and Rockville Centre before his family moved back home.

Also getting in: Lido Beach-raised Rick Rubin, the producer and co-founder of Def Jam Records. He'll be inducted as a recipient of the Musical Excellence Award, given to artists, musicians, songwriters and producers whose originality and influence have had a dramatic impact on music

For the record, the Class of 2026 nominees, who were announced during ABC's broadcast of "American Idol" are (besides Idol): Phil Collins; Iron Maiden; Joy Division/New Order; Oasis; Sade; Manhattan-born, Bronx-raised Luther Vandross, who died in 2005; and Staten Island's Wu-Tang Clan.

Five musicians will be inducted as early influencers: salsa superstar Celia Cruz, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and country-rocker Gram Parsons will be honored posthumously, as well as hip-hop artists Queen Latifah and MC Lyte.

Others getting posthumous Musical Excellence Awards are songwriter Linda Creed and producers Arif Mardin and Jimmy Miller.

The late variety show host Ed Sullivan will be the recipient of the Ahmet Ertegun Award, named for the legendary music-business executive who died in 2006.

This year's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place Nov. 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The program will then debut in December on ABC and Disney+. In 2027, the ceremony will return to Cleveland, where the Hall of Fame is located.
