The LI Sound: It's Taking Back Sunday, tell your friends
The reunion tour of Taking Back Sunday's "Tell All Your Friends"-era lineup starts this week, stopping at Irving Plaza - yes, Irving Plaza, which will no longer use the one-time mouthful The Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza starting with the band's show - on Wednesday.
Guitarist-singer John Nolan, who, along with bassist Shaun Cooper, returned to TBS after seven years away, says that shortly after they rejoined he went on a crash course of figuring out what he had missed. "I mostly just heard their singles after I left," he says. "I've started to listen to their whole catalog, and we'll be playing some of those songs, too."
The bulk of the shows on the tour, though, will be from the Rockville Centre-based band's debut "Tell All Your Friends" and the songs they've written since they got back together in April.
In other news:
Ryan Star's major-label debut "11:59" finally has a release date on Atlantic Records. To celebrate, the Dix Hills native will play Irving Plaza Aug. 3, the day the album is set to arrive in stores. Tickets are $15.50 through Ticketmaster. The timing of the release couldn't be better, as Star's single "Breathe" starts to pick up momentum. The inspirational rock track, which already has launched a website, breathe4jobs.com, has reached No. 18 on Billboard's Adult Top 40 chart and No. 19 on VH1's Top 20 Video Countdown.
The first reading for Aeroplane Pageant singer Brian Kelly's new Off-Broadway play "Hello, Superstar!" was a sellout last week at The Alchemy Theater. The play provides a look at a fictional day in the life of Edie Sedgwick. The Seaford band is working on the follow-up to last year's "Even the Kids Don't Believe Me."
