'The Voice' Battle Rounds 6 recap

If the pressure is so high, like everybody keeps saying during “The Voice” battle rounds, how come nobody drops bawling to his knees on stage into the fetal position? How come every contestant is supremely, perfectly poised, providing dramatic decisions or the judges? Questions to ponder during this recap of Tuesday night's Battle Rounds, Part 6.


TEAM CHRISTINA: Adriana Louise vs. Jordan Pruitt

Meeting Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, 21-year-old former Disney star Jordan observes, “He's a completely different genre than Christina!” You think? Her battle against fiery, purple-dressed beauty Adriana is, as Cee Lo Green observes, one of the best of the season. On Katy Perry's “Hot N Cold,” they're evenly matched but completely different -- Adriana is an Xtina-style belter, while Jordan has a distinctive, understated charisma.

TEAM BLAKE: Kelly Crapa vs. Michaela Paige

The true winner of this battle? Long Beach’s Joan Jett. The great leather-clad rocker's “I Hate Myself for Loving You” is not only an underrated gem, it's ideal for both pointy-haired, 16-year-old rocker Michaela and 15-year-old country power-puncher Kelly. Michaela is the obvious stylistic favorite for the song -- and Blake picks her after she and her voice and babydoll dress and pink hair stomp all over the stage. But Kelly finds more nuance in the song. Blake makes the wrong choice, but how great is his sense of humor? During preparation, he tells the girls, “Think of how much you hate Adam Levine.”

TEAM CEE LO: Avery Wilson vs. Chevonne

Chevonne, one of Lady Gaga's backup singers, is strong, poised and experienced, and has a striking, curly-red-hair charisma -- perfect for Christina, who uses her last steal. But Chevonne is no match for Avery Wilson, a young dancer-turned-singer, the way Jermaine Jackson was once no match for his brother Michael. Avery takes advantage of his two or three gears during the performance, shifting throughout David Guetta and Sia's “Titanium” from smooth crooner to rough soul man, spinning like MJ himself by the end.
