Webcast: Pianist Jeffrey Biegel, symphony
Jeffrey Biegel, an acclaimed concert pianist from Lynbrook with a history of Internet concerts, performs with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra this weekend. Saturday night's performance will be webcast live from Detroit.
Biegel will perform two works with the Detroit Symphony: Beethoven's monumental "Choral Fantasy," a predecessor to his Ninth Symphony, and the Detroit premiere of William Bolcom's "Prometheus." The University Musical Society Choral Union joins Biegel and the DSO on "Fantasy."
Also, music director Leonard Slatkin leads the orchestra in Dvorak's "New World" Symphony, considered the Czech composer's love letter to America.
Before the concert, Biegel and Slatkin will join host Charles Greenwell on stage at Orchestral Hall for a conversation about Saturday night's program.
The webcast begins at 7:50 p.m. on the DSO's "Live from Orchestra Hall" Internet series. It's available by logging on to dso.org/live, from which you can view the concert by computer or mobile device.
