4th accident hits Spider-Man on Broadway
A stuntman fell during an aerial stunt last night at a preview of the troubled “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark.”
An actor, identified by the Associated Press as Christopher Tierney, 31, fell off a high platform while trying to land during a rescue scene about 10:45, about seven minutes before the end of the performance.
The actor, who doubles for Spider-Man and two villains, was taken to Bellevue Hospital by ambulance. According to AP, a nurse at the hospital confirmed that he was admitted and was in stable condition, but would not provide details.
In a statement issued at 12:16 this morning, Rick Miramontez, a spokesman for the show, said “All signs were good as he was taken to the hospital for observation”
He said today that he had no further comments at this time.
This is the fourth injury for the troubled $65 million musical, which postponed its official opening last Friday from Jan. 11 to Feb. 7. This is the fourth delay for the show, which is directed by Julie Taymor, with music by U2’s Bono and The Edge.
Natalie Mendoza, who plays the villain Arachne, suffered a concussion by a falling rope offstage during the first preview, Nov. 28, and just returned to the show last Wednesday. During rehearsals, a dancer broke both wrists in a flying sequence and another injured his foot on the same trick.
