'Margaritaville,' 'Mystic Pizza' coming to Engeman Theater
Schnitzel with noodles, a "Cheeseburger in Paradise" and a fresh "Mystic Pizza" are among the items on the menu at the John W. Engeman Theater next season.
On Monday, the Northport theater announced its 2022-23 lineup, which will kick off with the premiere of the original musical "Mystic Pizza" based on the 1988 movie featuring Julia Roberts. The show, which follows the lives and loves of three waitresses working at a Mystic, Connecticut, pizzeria, will run from Sept. 15 to Oct. 30. "Pizza" will be topped with several pop hits from the '80s and '90s including "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," "Addicted to Love" and "Take My Breath Away."
Engeman's holiday offering will be "A Christmas Story" (Nov. 17-Jan.1) followed by "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" (Jan. 19-March 5) about two con men competing for the affection and fortune of an American heiress.
Duels and duets will get equal time in the swashbuckling adventure "The Scarlet Pimpernel," featuring the music of Frank Wildhorn, from March 16 to April 30. Rounding out the season will be the Rodgers and Hammerstein favorite "The Sound of Music" (May 18-July 2); followed by the "Escape to Margaritaville" (July 13-Aug. 27), featuring the songs of Jimmy Buffett.
“This season is going to be so much fun with an incredible mix of new and classic shows. It’s wonderful to see so many patrons excited about live theater again," said Engeman's producing artistic director and co-owner Richard Dolce in a statement.
