"Stranger Things" star Gaten Matarazzo is about to leave the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, for a while to return to Broadway.
Matarazzo, 19, will join the cast of the hit musical "Dear Evan Hansen" on July 19 in the role of Jared Kleinman, the title character's sort-of best friend, Deadline reports. Producer Stacey Mindich announced the casting on Wednesday.
In a statement, the actor said how "ecstatic" he is to be back on Broadway in a show that he said "has taught me so much about myself." Matarazzo has previously appeared on Broadway in "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" in 2011 and in "Les Misérables" in 2014.
He isn't the only new cast member headed to the Music Box Theatre in July. Ann Sanders takes over as Cynthia Murphy, the grieving mother of Evan's classmate Connor, who commits suicide. From the show’s North American tour, Noah Kieserman will take on the role of Connor and Ciara Alyse Harris joins as Evan's classmate Alana Beck.
Matarazzo, of course, can also be seen on Netflix when the fourth season of "Stranger Things" begins streaming on Friday.
