Julie Taymor could be on her way out of "Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark," according to a New York Times report last night.

Rick Miramontez, spokesman for the show, said last night that producers have no comment on the report, which first appeared on nytimes.com, that the producers are negotiating with the director to work with an expanded creative team or perhaps to leave the show.

Citing anonymous sources, the Times said that the producers, Taymor and composers Bono and The Edge have been in discussions about hiring outside consults and about heavy changes to the script and the music of the troubled $65-million-plus mega-musical.

In an e-mail Friday, producers Michael Cohl and Jere Harris told the company to expect news about the future of the show by the middle of this week.

It is widely believed that the show, scheduled to open next Tuesday, will be postponed for the sixth time, possibly to as late as June.

In addition to directing, Taymor also wrote the book for "Spider-Man" and designed the masks. She won two Tony awards for "The Lion King," for direction and costume design.
