‘American Idol’ fashion: For Nicki Minaj, it’s all about the 'girls’

The boys are gone, gone, gone from the stage of 'American Idol' leaving five girl finalists. And along with the boys went all that inauthentic styling – the peacock colored tuxedo jackets, shimmery bow ties and dandy shoes.
The only fashion shocker of Wednesday night went to Nicki Minaj, whose ruby red lips matched the melted-on-her-body slither by DSquared2 featuring a large circular cutout framing her very ample cleavage. HellOOOOO.
Besides the Minaj, um, eye-catcher, the girls focused more on their voices than their clothes.
Angie Miller rocked heavy metal. In the first round, she wore a snakeskin pattern shirt attached at the shoulder with bolts and chains, and acid washed jeans. For the second round, she topped her black mini dress with a cage of chains.
Candice Glover donned skinny pants, stilettos and slightly oversized tops: the first a cobalt, zipped number and then a white modified peasant blouse with sheer sleeves.
Kree Harrison kept it black and white first round – a short sleeve white cardi over a printed tee, black leggings and sparkly stiletto boots. This week she looked good in the frock she wore for round two, a black modified peplum.
Janelle Arthur wore a black and floral patchwork maxi for her first performance – not memorable – and then, went the other way in a short, gold sequin drenched miniskirt topped by a billowy, belted peasant blouse. Of course she wore cowboy boots.
Only Amber Holcomb embraced color. Her first look, a body skimming dress, featured what looked like a photo print of a glorious sunset. A pretty floral print adorned the sides of the dress framing her slim physique. She joined the black-and-whiters for her second performance in an evening gown that with a stiff white bodice and long black skirt. “Look how regal she looks,” said Ryan Seacrest.
