Colton Dixon gets actual criticism on 'American Idol'

Colton Dixon singing Earth, Wind and Fire's "Dancing in September" next on "American Idol." He's playing the piano, speeds it all up and gives the song a nice sense of urgency; pretty different from the original, I like it.

"I think your voice is a lot more powerful than that song," says Steven Tyler. I agree, actually; he's got a better voice than the song lets him display.

Jennifer Lopez also says she's "not sure it was the perfect performance." And Randy Jackson wanted him to do something more out of his comfort zone.

"You sound good, but not as exciting as we'd have liked."

Nice to hear some actual criticism on the show, really the first of the night.
