David Cook shows his brains on 'American Idol'

David Cook is up next on "American Idol" and he talks about his visit to Ethiopia. He's one of the smartest performers ever on "Idol" and his segment reflects it. He really could be a reporter. He explains some of the issues Ethiopians are facing -- particularly the lack of education opportunities for girls.

And, because he's David Cook, he sings some searing lines from "Heroes." He closes with "they deserve . . . they deserve a chance."

Probably the most emotional, clear segment of the night. He's one of my favorite "Idol" contestants, ever. Only thing missing -- his pal David Archuleta on stage with him!
