Death watch begins for 'Lone Star'
Sadly, "Lone Star" has been rejected by the audience - now just a matter of time, maybe hours, before Fox does the same.
The much-praised Monday night newbie which was handed one of TV's most valuable time slots - Mondays at 9 on Fox - just got its report card for last night, and the numbers remain very much down. Well over half of "House's" audience bails on the show; its young adult numbers are very low indeed.
Time to start the obits? Not so fast. Maybe Fox should give it a shot somewhere else on the schedule. But where? The rest of the week looks to be working reasonably well. If this is musical chairs - to to use this old analogy - all the seats are taken. This is a tough call.
What happened to "Lone Star?" My three theories:
1.) A terrifically difficult time period, maybe TV's most competitive. It's just brutal.
2.) "House" viewers come for "House;" they don't stick around to see what's next.
3.) As I mused in my review, the show had/has creative problems. Are viewers really into a show about a two-timer who has ripped off hundreds of people/ I had/have my doubts. Still, it seems like an interesting show and would be interesting to see how it resolves this issue; it now looks like it won't.
