Didi Benami singing "What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted" on "American Idol" (ugh!) She breaks down after singing it for Usher and he told her that emotion should be out during the performance.

Hmm, nice start, simple, pure, pacing is a bit different. She's wearing a gold gown. It's such a familiar song but she's speeding it up a bit, giving it some urgency, a different kind of glide. Makes you have to listen.

A bit rushed-feeling, but I don't know, somehow it works for me. It's totally believable. The words are piling up on each other. It makes for some tension, makes it a big lament at the end. Wow, that was pretty good.

Randy didn't like it. He said he was waiting for a moment, but never found it. Ellen boos herself first, says it was way too dramatic and not your her best. Kara says "it was overdone, girl." Says she's lost her way, who are you, she says. Kara says she's puzzled.

Simon says "it was like swimming in jelly," over-the-top, old-fashioned, off-melody. Wow, Didi is giving him the look of death!

Eh, I disagree. I liked it. She was singing it for her friend who died, as Ryan alludes to. None of the judges acknowledged that she was obviously sharing something personal, and it was a bit tough for her.
