'Girls,' 'Veep' renewed

HBO has handed second seasons to both "Girls" and "Veep." No suprise -- it's very, very rare that HBO kills a show that it's put some faith into after just a couple of episodes, and given the hugely positive critical reaction to "Girls," a second season was beyond a certainty. "Girls" stands the chance of becoming one of those real cultural watershed series  for the network even though initial ratings are only OK.
