The Hoff is off.

The first victim of "Dancing with the Stars" is an unexpected one: David Hasselhoff.

The Hoff?!

Yes. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. The Hoff.

What happened? Well, to be absolutely truthful, he wasn't that good Monday night - a score of 15, tying him with the two other couples in the bottom three.

But so what? This is the Hoff we're talking about, and his show-ending (umm) something on Monday was a comic masterpiece. Best of all, he had potential.

This departure was most definitely a case of viewer malfeasance. Tom Bergeron said that as far as first contestants to be voted off, Hoff's "was the biggest surprise to me" after 11 seasons.

Indeed.

Meanwhile, "DWTS" first night's total viewership was 21.3 million viewers, up 24 percent from last season.

With Hoff gone, will that hold up?
