Joshua Ledet emerges a star as Jen Hirsch soars on 'American Idol'

98 contestants left on "American Idol," now they get to sing solo for the judges. Historically this is where we get some of the best performances of the season -- Jacob Lusk did a searing rendition of Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child" at this stage last season, for example.

Joshua Ledet first, doing Christina Perri's "Jar of Hearts" -- wow, where did he come from, totally knocks it out of the park. A bit of Jacob in him; soulful, sweet, compelling. Jennifer Lopez is shaking her head in disbelief, Randy Jackson just goes "wow!" Judges give him a standing ovation -- "amazing, baby, amazing," says Jackson as Lopez adds, "ridiculous."

Colton Dixon next, with a blond streak in his dark mohawk. Doing Chris Daughtry's "What About Now," jamming on the keyboard; a bit mumbly at times, but he's also got a good voice.

Phillip Phillips brings out the guitar for Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" -- I'm a big fan of his, but the snippet they show seems pretty normal.

Jen Hirsch caps off what Ryan Seacrest calls "one of our best solo days ever," does a sloooow, controlled "Georgia on My Mind," soars at the end, showing off her big voice. Also gets a standing ovation from the judges.
