Krista McNally, a former crime reporter for News 12, has joined WABC/7, where she'll be one of two reporters covering Long Island, the station announced Wednesday.

"We are thrilled to have Krista joining reporter Stacey Sager on our Eyewitness News team covering Long Island," Marilu Galvez, Ch. 7 president and general manager, said in a statement. "Long Island communities are central to the work we do, and Krista’s deep roots and more than a decade of experience covering Nassau and Suffolk Counties bring valuable perspective to our coverage. Her local insight and commitment to breaking news strengthen our ability to tell the stories that matter most to the communities we call home."

McNally first began appearing on air at the station a couple of weeks ago.

The Bay Shore resident had a particularly visible run during her three-year stint at News 12, which ended last fall. She was the station's lead reporter on the Gilgo Beach serial killings and covered the trial of Michael Valva, the former NYPD officer sentenced in December 2022 for murder of his 8-year-old son, Thomas, who died of hypothermia after he was forced to sleep in the garage of the family's Center Moriches home. McNally had two runs at News 12 — the first in 2020 in a part-time role, and the other beginning in 2022. She began her career in 2013 as communications director for the New York State Senate, then worked as a general assignment reporter for Verizon Fios 1 News from 2015 to 2019, when its news operations shut down after a 10-year run. Before rejoining News 12 in 2022, she was home page/social media editor for Fox News.

The Long Island native and mother of two attended St. Mary School in East Islip and St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip. She's a graduate of Iona College, now Iona University, in New Rochelle.
