Morgan Freeman and Alicia Keys way outshine Ban Ki-Moon on 'American Idol'

Ban Ki-Moon, the stealth secretary general of the United Nations, gives a choppy speech about supporting the UN, and thanks "American Idol" for its donations.

He's followed by Morgan Freeman, who because we live in the world we do, gets a much bigger reception than the head of one of the world's most important organizations. He talks about our poor high school graduation rate and shows us -- with Randy Jackson -- how Mississippi needs our help.

Randy's good at this. His voiceover is clear and sincere. No sense of self-promotion; clearly an issue he knows well and cares about.

Alicia Keys comes out to sing "Unthinkable" and "Empire State of Mind (Part II)." She's of course a lot better as a performer than she was last night as a mentor.

Her rendition of "Empire" is pretty good. You won't be hearing it at Yankees games any time soon, but she's totally got passion and the audience loves her.
