Off the Wall: 2 networks vie tooth and nail with shark shows
Off the Wall
bites bad
every single week.
BREAK BINGE-Y Catch every episode of "Breaking Bad" (Sunday 5 p.m.-1 a.m., AMC) in a weekly Sunday night binge-fest running through Oct. 5. AMC promises never-aired cast interviews and making-ofs. For yet more, watch second-screen using Sunday's interactive Breaking Bad Binge Companion at amctv.com
SHARK SMACKDOWN! Going jaw-to-jaw are Discovery's 27th annual Shark Week and NatGeo Wild's second annual SharkFest, both starting Sunday night at 8. Among this year's 13 premieres on Discovery: "Air Jaws: Fin of Fury" (Sunday at 8 p.m.), "Monster Hammerhead" (Monday at 10 p.m.) and the inevitable "Zombie Sharks" (Wednesday at 9 p.m.). Among this year's premieres on NatGeo Wild: "Shark Kill Zone" (tomorrow at 8 p.m.) and "Monster Fish: River Jaws" (Monday at 9 p.m.). Discovery also hosts the live late-night talkfest "Shark After Dark" (Sunday-Thursday at 11 p.m.). More at discovery.com/sharkweek and natgeowild.com/sharkfest
WILD WEATHER The new Weather Channel block Survival Sunday introduces two shows this weekend. "So You Think You'd Survive?" (Sunday at 9 p.m.) preps us for worst-case scenarios like mudslides and sinkholes. "Fat Guys in the Woods" (Sunday at 10 p.m., Weather) tests regular dudes' "manly" survival skills, this week placing three California buds in the bitter-cold Smoky Mountains. More at weather.com/tv
COMPETITION WINNERS Find out who takes the cake, or the comedy, in four contest-enders -- "Food Network Star" (Saturday at 9 p.m., Food), "Chopped Teen Tournament" (Tuesday at 10 p.m., Food), "Last Comic Standing" (Thursday at 10 p.m., NBC/4) and "Funniest Wins" (Friday at 10 p.m., TBS).
SEASON/SERIES FINALES Summer seasons conclude on dramas "Hit the Floor" (Monday at 9 p.m., VH1), "Major Crimes" (Monday at 9 p.m., TNT) and "Murder in the First" (Monday at 10 p.m., TNT). Say bye for good to Elijah Wood and Jason Gann on "Wilfred" (Wednesday at 10 p.m., FXX). Also outta here, at least for now, are "Duck Dynasty" (Wednesday at 9 p.m., A&E) and "Big Smo" (Wednesday at 10:30 p.m., A&E).
UNSCRIPTED BUT NOT 'REALITY' You know the difference. "The Approval Matrix" (Monday at 11 p.m., Sundance) assesses pop culture obsessions with experts, hosted by Neil Brennan, who ran "Chappelle's Show." (His new show is run by Rockville Centre native Rory Albanese, recently of "The Daily Show.") Mayim Bialik hosts the latest reboot of TV perennial "Candid Camera" (Monday-Thursday 8 p.m., then Tuesday at 8, TV Land). Ben Gleib hosts "Idiotest" (Tuesday at 9 p.m., GSN), playing the popular app game on a giant touch screen. OK, so this one is sort of scripted: "Heartbreakers" (Wednesday at 10 p.m., ID) casts '80s-'90s hunks like Kevin Sorbo, Jack Wagner, Rob Estes and Judd Nelson in re-creations of real-life love crimes.
