Bravo's "Princesses: Long Island," debuting Sunday night, is far from the only reality show to be set here. From Hicksville to the Hamptons, Mastic to Merrick, Fire Island to Old Westbury, Long Island has been keeping it real(ity) with such series as:
Long Island Medium (TLC, 2011-present) -- The other current Long Island-based show, now in its fourth season, stars Hicksville medium Theresa Caputo and her family. There also was another recent reality show in the same supernatural strain: "Mary Knows Best" (Syfy, 2010), a six-episode series featuring Mastic-based psychic and radio host Mary Occhino and her three kids.
Long Island Princesses Unleashed (E!, 2010 special) -- Amazingly, there was a similar project to "Princesses: Long Island" three years ago. Its four young stars were seen visiting such locales as the Port Washington Yacht Club and one of the Max & Gino's clothing stores. They evidently then got leashed.
Growing Up Twisted (A&E, 2010) -- East Setauket rocker and former Twisted Sister front man Dee Snider, his wife, Suzette, and their three children starred in this seven-episode attempt at "The Osbournes."
Living Lohan (E!, 2008) -- Actress Lindsay Lohan wasn't part of this show about Merrick mom-manager Dina Lohan working on daughter Ali Lohan's singer-actress career. Lindsay's brothers, Cody and Michael Jr., also starred, as did Dina's assistant, Alexis Armonas, and the
kids' grandma, Nana. "Living" died after nine episodes.
One Ocean View (ABC, 2006) -- Fire Island is not the Jersey Shore, as ABC found out two episodes into this series about 11 mostly upscale young men and women sharing a beach house. ABC pulled the plug and an additional four episodes went unaired.
Growing up Gotti (A&E, 2004-2005) -- Victoria Gotti, daughter of mobster John Gotti, starred with her sons, Carmine, Frank and John, in this Old Westbury-based series.
The Hamptons (ABC, 2002) -- This was a two-part documentary by Oscar winner Barbara Kopple ("Harlan County, USA"), featuring Alec Baldwin, Billy Joel and several salt-of-the-earth year-rounders.
Single in the Hamptons (WE, 2002) -- Perhaps the first Long Island-set reality show was this obscure effort about dating in the East End. Rather than princesses, the short-lived series starred the likes of CEO and philanthropist Marjorie Gubelmann.
