Oy gevalt. Call it the spawn of "Jersey Shore," or call it "showbiz," but a show about so-called Jewish-American princesses is in development.

Jenn Hoffman, a Huntington native and principal of her own L.A.-based production firm, Get Some Media, said Tuesday, "We're casting right now [and] it's preliminary, but with the popularity of 'Jersey Shore' and me coming from Long Island, I thought there was an untapped gold mine, the one I grew up with, which are Jewish-American princesses."

She said the show - like "Real Housewives" or "Jersey Shore" - would follow the cast members and is expected to be set on the Island.

Now, now readers: Don't get excited - or angry. This could go nowhere, although Hoffman, a former contestant on "The Apprentice," says that other production companies are also developing the concept. (Asked whether she had the backing of a network, Hoffman declined to comment.)

Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, said Tuesday that other producers had sought out the ADL's position on such a show in recent years. "We told them, 'Don't do it, it fuels the worst stereotypes,' " he said, adding that "it is a pejorative term and an insulting term and not an endearing term. People don't call a woman a 'JAP' out of love, respect or appreciation. They do it to make fun and ridicule and be hurtful."

Hoffman said the show "is not meant to be mean or hateful" though she admitted even she struggled to specifically identify what the term meant: "Some [Jews] would never identify with the term, and there are others who would embrace it."
