THE SHOW "Snooki & JWoww"

WHEN | WHERE Thursday night at 10 on MTV

WHAT IT'S ABOUT Hey, what do best friends in the whole world want to do? JWoww (Jenni Farley) says living with Snooki (Nicole Polizzi) is on her "bucket list" of things to do before she's 30. "Ever since we met each other," says Snooki, "it's like, oh my God, we need to live with each other cuz that's what best friends do." On tonight's premiere, they apartment-hunt in Jersey City, and locate a very cozy woman cave. But before they settle in, Snooki has a little news for her roomie.

MY SAY Now, finally, we come to what could be the last link of sausage to come off the "Jersey Shore" factory line. There are no other logical or obvious combinations, like, say, "The Mike and Ron Happy Hour."

This is probably it, though from MTV's perspective, "Snooki & JWoww" just seemed ridiculously obvious from the beginning. Not just two wild party girls, but the wildest party girls, together in the big city, or a big city. On paper, "Snooki & JWoww" promised to be a guilty something ("pleasure" doesn't quite seem like the right word). We'd rubberneck for a while, then move along.

But there may be no compelling reason to even do that. Limp and (appropriately) lunkheaded, "Snooki & JWoww" stars two people who'd probably rather be stuck in an elevator than in this money grab. When Snooki confides that she's engaged and (oh, yeah) pregnant, JWoww suddenly gets a grim glimpse of her future foretold on the show -- forced sobriety, and a roommate with morning sickness.

Turns out, in fact, that a sober Snooki isn't all that much different from a drunken one. She still has that endearing habit of seeing the world much as 3-year-olds do. "The fact that I can reproduce is very scary," says she. From the mouths of babes.

BOTTOM LINE "Snooki & JWoww" reeks of the end-times -- the end-times for "Jersey Shore." We've all been there / done this, and once is plenty.
