From "Knight Rider" and "Baywatch" to "America's Got Talent," David Hasselhoff occupies a special place in pop-culture land. He stakes out new territory starting Sunday, when A&E debuts the reality series "The Hasselhoffs," which focuses on The Hoff and his two daughters, Taylor and Hayley. And while we all know his best-known credits, you might have to dig a lot deeper to remember these five Hasselhoff extravaganzas:
Pleasure Cove (1979) - This TV movie was the failed pilot for a series that was essentially "The Love Boat" set at a posh resort. One of the guests was played by Tom Jones, making his acting debut as a rogue with criminal intentions.
Semi-Tough (1980) - A short-lived series based on Dan Jenkins' raunchy novel (and subsequent Burt Reynolds movie). Hasselhoff played Shake Tiller, a member of the New York Bulls, pro football's losing-est team (Kris Kristofferson played him in the 1977 movie).
Bridge Across Time (1985) - In this TV movie, he played an Arizona cop who's convinced that Jack the Ripper has surfaced in his town a century after his death. It all has something to do with the relocation of the original London Bridge to Lake Havasu City. (Jack's soul was somehow transported to America in one of the bridge's bricks.)
The Love Boat (1980 and '81) - Well, of course he showed up here. In 1980, he played a lawyer who wants to marry a colleague (Shelley Fabares) who's afraid of commitments. A year later, he resurfaced as a former college football star trying to rekindle his romance with cruise director Julie McCoy (Lauren Tewes).
Avalanche (1994) - Follow closely. In this TV movie, Hoff plays a lunatic who kills the pilot of a plane. Plane crashes and causes an avalanche, which buries nice family's house and almost kills lunatic. Lunatic arrives half-frozen at nice family's house. Thaws out, turns the movie into a poor man's "Desperate Hours."
