'The Simpsons' Springfield is in Oregon

"The Simpsons" has long been based in a fictional city known by the name of Springfield — to which you say, "d'oh dude — that's only the best-known piece of pop culture trivia in the entire known universe." True (dude) but not known is where is Springfield? There are thousands of Springfields out there, each claiming to be the real Springfield, with Matt Groening politely declining to give any of them the satisfaction of claiming the prize. Until now... He says in a recent interview that the inspiration came from hometown Springfield, Oregeon (on the outskirts of Eugene); ipso facto, Springfield of "The Simpsons" is in Oregon. Sort of.
