Capping a memorable season so far (wouldn't you say?), "Saturday Night Live" just announced that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will co-host the midseason finale on Dec. 19.

Also this: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be the musical guest.

Let's not call this the gaudiest surprise of the "SNL" season so far, but it's a significant one. Both Fey and Poehler are among the biggest stars to emerge from "SNL" over the past decade, and later became hugely popular Golden Globes co-hosts as well.

Moreover, they have a film to promote: "Sisters," written by "SNL" alum Paula Pell. The significant challenge of the "Sisters" promotion project? Opens the same day "Star Wars The Force Awakens" goes into wide release.

Fey and Poehler have separately hosted "SNL" before; this will be their first time doing so together. They were, of course, a legendary co-anchor team on the "Weekend Update" segment back in the day.

The rest of the December lineup: Ryan Gosling and Leon Bridges on Dec. 5, and Chris Hemsworth and Chance The Rapper, Dec. 12.
